Your relative is the only one wearing a lanyard on his shoulder so they may all be from different Regiments.

i think thats a red herring,  ;) the lanyard doesn't mean he's from a different regiment it just means hes got a clasp knife usually, but there's just about nothing to identify which regiment except that it's not a rifle regiment

the uniform looks around early war ( pleated pockets) your GF would have been around 41 at the start of the war, so the question is how old is he in the photo?

the 3 men seated are careful about where their folded arms are positioned,so as to hide the fact that they arent wearing any belts,thats the sign of soldiers who have served before,the man 2nd left[seated] is wearing both the KSA +QSA medal ribbons,the photo is ww1,mack
