Emily Northeast
« on: Thursday 07 December 06 10:06 GMT (UK) »
Emily Northeast is believed to have been born in Ireland in 1836/7 (place unknown) her parents being Jonathan Northeast and Anne ?. She married a William Hines born 1831 in England 7/07/1864 in Toronto, Ontario.
It's a big call but if anyone can shed further light on Emily it would be much appreciated.
Regards, Maxn

Suspect that Northeast surname might not be that common is Ireland but difficult to find records from 1830s, especially if you don't know county and even parish. Birth registration began 1864 so it is really church records for earlier dates.,
Found Emily, and family, in 1881, 1901, 1911 Ontario census records easily and there are lots of other Canadian records available on-line.
In 1881 Emily is 45 born Ireland (born c1836)
In 1901 Emily is born 10 July 1838 Ireland (age 62)
In 1911 Emily is born Feb.1836 Ireland (age 75)

If you could get a death notice for her from the local newspaper it might give a place of birth (besides 'Ireland').
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thanks aghadowey for the information. The old girl changed her age a few times as appears normal for those times.
Will try to get more info on her original domicile.

Hi,
this site: http://www.failteromhat.com/post1845.php
which shows surnames from around 1850s has only one entry for Northeast - County Cork, Richard Northeast.

Family Search http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=igi/search_IGI.asp&clear_form=true
has 6 - 2 for the same person 1870s in Cork; 2 for the same person in 1600s in Clare and 2 for the same person in 1600s in Dublin (3 people in all).
So at the moment, Cork looks the favourite.
good luck

I do hope all these are not red herrings!
Ancestry.co.uk has 2 references to the name for Irish records (wills?) Alexander (1831) and Jonathan (1804) both Kilworth, Cork (map doesn't look too far away from Conna in earlier find).
And again (Ancestry)  a Jonathan Northeast seems to have enlisted in the Irish Constabulary in 1823 in Cork. Perhaps some of these are family names?
having just reread your original post, I see that there is some relevance - good.
