Well I have to say I thought the name Crommelin was uncommon ..... but looking at Ancestry ...... there's quite a few people who have the name on their family trees !! 

Aisne France in the 1600's and Picardy France in 1600's to name a couple !!

Might be worth your while to wait for the next freebie weekend for Ancestry Luc - and just take the time to go through them !! ( that's if you're inclined to do so ...... I realise they are not direct to you ...... however it's nice to go off on a tangent now and again !!  )

A big Hello & Thanks to Catone, Liverpool Annie, and Old Braggs!

You folk are something else - thank you so much I was so excited when i read the postings that I immediately got out the family trees and after some double checking all today with a 84 years young  cousin of mine (a retired french priest who now lives between  Wallis Island and New Zealand and who is over here visiting France) -we have covered my appartment with books and family trees and  made a joyous mess but , success " We have found the Arden / Russell  family connection to Major George Russell Crommelin - they are surprisingly through his wife Joanna and his paternal Grandmother Mary Arden (Ardon)!

So I cannot thank you all enough - your the best! !

To add to your 'Crommellin' data I have visited the Crommellin Biological Field Station at Pearl Beach NSW where Miss Minard Fannie Crommellin MBE (1881-1972) established,on seven acres of land, the most interesting nature reserve which she eventually donated to Sydney University.
Just 'google' Crommellin Pearl Beach and you will find a lot of detail.
