What happened to No 66?
« on: Thursday 07 December 06 17:04 GMT (UK) »
I have a marriage certificate showing the bride's address as 66  Great Jackson St . Hulme. Now in 1851 Census area 2t Hulme has 68  Great Jackson St on it.68 is uninhabited) and area 2n  p 48 has 46-64. The same thing happens in 1861 where area 44 has 66-96 only when you look at it there is only 68 to 96. and area 27 has up 2-64. What happened to No 66? I assume that in both censuses have a break there there is a road where 66 should be. Is there any one local to Manchester  or who access to the census areas who can confirm that this indeed is the case?

Hi

How mysterious  :o

The other problem is that addresses of convenience were sometimes used for marriages, so the bride might not actually have lived there [even if the house existed]!

If you post the bride's details, we could look for her & her father on the filmed & unfilmed census returns & in the Trade Directories.

Good luck

Her name is Mary Nolan/ Nowlan b circa  1833 in Ireland. Her father name is James but I think it quite likely she was in service.

Hi

I can't find a Mary Nolan in Hulme  :-[

A couple of possibles:

HO 107/2227 folio 91 pg 18
17 Cumberland Street, Manchester

Mary Nolan; ser; 13; house servant; Ireland

***************************
HO 107/2232 folio 225 pg 26
18 Derby Street, Manchester

Mary Nolan; serv; unm; 19; servant; Ireland, Kildare

There are probably some others but I don't see any Nolan's on the unfilmed census for Hulme.

Sorry
