Hi Sue,

It wouldn't have been any trouble BUT Whitchurch library only has the parish records for Whitchurch and the surrounding villages - Prees - Tilstock - Whixall etc. so sorry no luck here with Oswestry
.

Will see what I can find next time on the Povah family - will be interested to find how they spelt that!!  ;D ;D

Cheers

Keith

Hi Sue,

Had a look through Whitchurch Parish Records and this is what I found from around the time:

Baptisms

Date   Child’s Name       Parents                        Abode     Trade    Performed                                                     Christian          Surname
27/6/1813Elizabeth        Samuel             Povah    Broughall  Labourer   J Mills
                             & Elizabeth
25/5/1815Mary       Charles             Povah  Claypit St  Parish Clerk   E Jones
                          & Ann
5/6/1815   Thomas      James                Povah  Woodhouses  Farmer         J Collier
                           & Ann
3/2/1816   Martha   Samuel                 Povah  Broughall    Labourer   E Jones
                           & Elizabeth
11/1/1817 Charles   Charles                Povah  Claypit St     Parish Clerk  E Jones
                           & Ann
24/6/1818 Ann   Charles                Povah   Claypit St  Parish Clerk    J Collier
                            & Ann
16/5/1819 Elizabeth Samuel              Povah   Broughall        Labourer  E Jones
                           & Elizabeth

Burials

16/7/1813   John Charlton – Parish Clerk – Back St – Aged 81 – J Collier
29/12/1814   Richard Povah – Blue Gates – 68 – E Jones
13/4/1816   Ann Povah      - Back Hill – 70 – J Murray Aig
5/8/1817   Robert Povah  - Back Hill – 62 -      “           “
12/8/1818   Ann Povah      - Claypit St – 26 – E Jones

Marriages

25/12/1812 – Charles Povah & Ann Taylor

Further on was this one for baptisms
22/3/1824 - Thomas  - William & Elizabeth - Povah - Hollyhurst - Labourer

Hope these help:
A few points:
I only put in the death of John Charlton as he must have been the Parish Clerk before your Charles!
2 births to the same couple for Elizabeth (must have missed the death or perhaps they did have 2!?)

No more births after 1819 for the next 2 years.

I then jumped to 1824 to find Thomas.

Presume that is the death of "your" Ann which would explain why no more children to that couple!!
The other burials must be the parents of some of your lot by their ages

Hope this all helps in your quest.

Cheers

Keith

P.S. I wrote this lot out in "Word" but the site doesn't copy the spaces the same - sorry

Well done Pete - that should keep Sue quiet till the new year!!

I was surprised that the name was correct on all the records as well - mine has the "e" missed off (even before Robin came into the picture!) and the "t" is read as an "l"
