Dalgliesh.
« on: Tuesday 16 November 04 20:36 GMT (UK) »
Another newbie.

Trying desperately to find out more about my Mothers side of the family.

All I know is that she was born in Cork in 1913, her name was Mary Rose Agnes Dalgliesh.

Her father was James Edward Dalgliesh, born in Fermanagh.  He had a brother named Walter and sisters named Nellie and Ethel.

They all lived in St.Mary's Road.

Reason for so little info on my grandparents is that my Mum fell for a guy from the wrong side of the tracks. Love prevailed but both were disowned by their parents.
My Mothers mothers maiden name was McCarthy.

Hi,

What are you looking to find? Do you have your mother's birth certificate? What about her parent's marriage? You could look for them in the 1911 census in St Mary's Road.

The indexes are in the Dublin GRO and at your local family history centre and the census is at the NAtional archives in Dublin and (I think) you can get it on film at the family history centre too.

Kate,

I have moved a little further forward.

Have acquired a copy of entry of birth for my Mother.(Would you believe from a family member).

St Marys road proved to be false......she was born in Chapel Road, Midleton to one James Dalgliesh and Nora Dalgliesh..nee..McCarthy on the  7.10.1913.

So far that is all that I have.

When you refer to my local family history centre do you mean the PRO in Kew London or am I missing something.

Is the 1911 census on line and if so where.

Be grateful for any pointers,

Regards.

Hi

There are family history centres as part of the Church of the Latter day saints. See familysearch.org to find your nearest one. There you can order films including the 1911 census. There are very few parts of this census on line and none from Cork.
Or you could hop on a plane and drop into the National Archives in Dublin!
