Garibaldis Lancers.

I dont know if anyone on this board can help. I realise that this is not British Armed forces.

I am trying to find a list of the Officers that deserted Garilbaldis Army on or around 19 March 1849.  They were men from families of the nobility.

My Grandfather was one of these men. He arrived in England on 5th April 1849 on a ship called ATTWOOD from Rotterdam to London.

He had changed his name before arriving. When he later married he gave his place of birth as Como, Italy.  I am unable to follow this up until I can find his actual name and place of birth. ( He obviously lied). 
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
