Court Martials
« on: Sunday 10 December 06 15:45 GMT (UK) »
Hi all, does anyone out there have any information on court martials from WW1 or where the said information can be obtained.I have just received my grndfathers records from the National Archives and they make very interesting reading,on the 23-3-1916 he was sentenced to 5 years detention on the 2-4-1916 the sentence was quashed and on the 15-9-1916 he was killed in action at Flers-Courcellete the latter I knew about, his name was George Mee 2550 2nd Batt Sherwood Foresters.Would  records of court martials have been kept?ana if so where.

You will find that dismissals and some other results of Courts Martial can be found in the London Gazette.

Hi
Most records of courts martial are in WO 213, WO92 or WO90, You would need to track down the record of the court at the National Archives.

You will only get an extract from the records of the Courts-Martial Proceedings if you get out the file WO213, this will give you Name Rank, Regiment & Battalion, Place of Trial, Date of Trial, Charge, Sentence, Remitted & Remarks.
