« on: Thursday 14 December 06 12:23 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for some advice , so I thought I would ask the experts
I am researching William KAY born Cannongate Edinburgh 1842, 6 May 1861 Volunteered for the British Army   it looks like the regiment is  HM 105 The 105th Regiment of Foot.
30 Nov 1867. Transferred to the 79th Regt, his regimental number after transferring, 1700
He was in India from 1859 to 1871 9 July, 1871 on board H.M.S Jumna returning from India, have no census.
 12. 4.1878 deserted, from 5.10 .1880 to 30.6.1881, he was in prison in Glencorse, I couldn't find him in the 1881 census?
I would be very interested to hear of any campaigns that he was involved in.
17.6 1884 Discharged from Army at Gosport
1896 his son Darryl F rank KAY died in the workhouse at Carisbrooke IOW, His death certificate notes next of kin William KAY army pensioner, no trace has been found of him on the IOW at that time (by now his wife had left him, our William had been a bit of a bad lad according to his army & medical records)
I found his two sons in the workhouse at Carisbrooke IOW in 1901census, I  cant find him in the 1901 census, he may have died by then, I know he was dead by 1908 when one of his sons married,
would the pension records have info on his death & an address.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
