Mary Brash
« on: Thursday 14 December 06 23:53 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help please?
I have a Mary Brash on the 1901 Census in Hertfordshire, age 7 years, born Barry Docks, Wales.   I have trawled through the births both Wales & England but found no registration, also have found no trace of a marriage or death of same, it's as tho'she was born yet never existed . Any ideas or info would be so appreciated.. Dolly

Strange that she is a visitor in another house on census day, as a 7 year old in St Albans - way away from Wales where she was born.

Also just out of interest why does she have an X in the last column?

Can't seem to find anything on her aside from 1901 census. :-\

Ah, Spongebob, not so strange! in fact  the persons I suspect of being Marys parents were in St Albans in previous census, where her father was a schoolmaster. As for X in the last columb, Iv'e no idea. thanks for you interest. Dolly

Suspected father being Thomas L? Why would he appear in St Albans in 1881 and then have a child in Wales in 1894 and then disappear again while she appears in St Albans in 1901! I'm really confused now! :-\

Me too confused, Your right tho', suspect that Thomas L is father, and  I suspect she is their daughter  because apparently they had to flee to Wales because of WHAT I know not, you can see a family Thomas Brown on the 1891 in Cardiff, born Scotland , with wife Kate and son David(my Grandfather )lodging in a boarding house, then in1901 Kate is a widow, still in Barry, my Grandfather in Devon,so I presume that Thomas died between 1891 &1901 in Wales,( no trace of his death either) and may have had this Mary around 1894!  Hope I haven't confused you even more. These are possibles the scots can pass mothers maiden name on as middle name.

Dryden  Catherine Elizabeth     Stepney  1c 881
