London Regiment
« on: Friday 15 December 06 00:03 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
This is possibly a picture of my grandfather (ringed), Thomas William Reynolds, b 1899, who joined the London Regiment in 1914. Can anyone tell me if the badge is London Regiment?

If it is him, I'm slightly confused by the uniform as he was on the Western Front from 1915-1918. But his battalion was in Malta for a short time after his basic training, so that could be an explanation. I'd be interested to hear any views - it's hard to say if he is the same person as in later photographs I have.

Thanks
Rob

Rob,

Looks like a Fusiliers badge. I think the London Regiment were part of the Fusiliers, both British and Canadian.

not to be confused with the London regiment  ;)

A very belated thank you to both of you for this. He was indeed 1/3rd (City of London) Battalion TF (Royal Fusiliers), so that sounds hopeful.

Are there possibly any other clues here that might help? I have pictures of him in later life, but it is difficult to say whether they are of the same person.

Regards
Rob

According to this site, both the 1st and 3rd Battalions were in Gallipoli and Egypt in 1915/16 - could this explain the uniform?
