1901 Census Glasgow
« on: Wednesday 17 November 04 13:13 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I wondered if anyone was able to do a look up for Glasgow 1901 census.  I have spent a small fortune on the scotlandspeople site with no luck.  I am looking for Elizabeth Joy GIBSON.  She was sometimes called Joy.  She may have been living with her father Robert and/or her brother Robert (possibly in Duke St), or with her sister Maggie IRVINE or she was possibly in a hospital/asylum in Glasgow.  She would have been around 19/20.  I know she was in the asylum from a young age, after the birth of her child, until her death and am trying to determine a)when she went in and b) which asylum she was admitted to.

If anyone can help in any way I would be most grateful.

Hi

Just curious, do you have any further info you can add?

How old would  her father have been in 1901?

How old would her brother be 1901?

How old would maggie have been in 1901?

Who did she marry and when?

When did she die and what asylum was she in?

And what was the first child's name and when was he/she born?

If you can supply all this it may help, some of it even may also help.

Wendy

Hi

Thanks for the response.

The father would have been about 58 (if still alive)
The brother about 28
Maggie about 27

She never married.  When older she was tiny - she never grew past the size of a child.  The baby was almost certainly the result of someone taking advantage of her.  After she had the baby (not sure when) she was institutionalised.  I don't know when this was, hence the variety of different places she could be in 1901.  She was originally in an aslyum in Glasgow.  Some years later (around 1926/27)my g grandmother tracked her down and she was by then in one in Fife.  She got her moved to Westgreen (Royal Liff) in Dundee around this time so she could get visits more easily.  She died in Westgreen probably late 1940's or 1950's.

I don't know what happened to the baby.

Any help gratefully received.
