James family Penarth 1900
« on: Wednesday 17 November 04 13:21 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I'm getting nowhere in trying to find my grandmother's family, and wonder if anyone can help.

She was born Muriel Ann James, 13/11/1911 in Penarth, Glamorganshire. Her mother was Florence (nee Spry), and I don't know her father's name - possibly Cecil or Hubert. She had three brothers, Richard, Cyril and Bernard, and that's all the info I have.

Would really appreciate any help you could offer, and thanks

Amanda

Do you have your Grandmother's birth certificate? This would certify who Murial James parents were.

As you mention a Florence Spry I took a look in the 1901 census online and there were 17 matches to that name in 1901 but only one in Glamorgan here are the results:

Name Age Where Born Administrative County Civil Parish Occupation

Florence Spry  14 Glamorgan Cardiff Glamorganshire Canton

I found these entries for people living in Canton in 1901 these may be Florence's family:
Name Age Where Born Administrative County Civil Parish Occupation

Thomas Spry  60 Devon Ashwater Glamorganshire Canton Funiture Broker

Annie Spry  45 Hants Portsmouth Glamorganshire Canton

Florence Spry  14 Glamorgan Cardiff Glamorganshire Canton

William Spry  9 Devon Sidmouth Glamorganshire Canton

I think this is a possible for a marriage for Florence Spry.

Marriages Mar 1910
~~~~~~~~
James  Bernard Samuel     Cardiff  11a 447
SPRY  Florence     Cardiff  11a 447
Ideally you could do with applying for the birth certificate of Muriel and this would give you her fathers name and then it would enable you to work backwards on family.
You can apply for her birth certificate, they are £7 with the reference.
Here is the entry for birth
James Muriel A
mother maiden name - Spry
district - Cardiff
Vol - 11a
I usually order my certificates through www.1837online.com
On this site you can search for birth, death and marriage entries.
Other free sites to look at are
and sometimes I just enter a name and place in google and it is amazing what it brings up.
