They are elusive in 1841-I suppose you have widowed Ann with daughters Mary and Cecily in 1851??

Hi Suz
yes he does  have the 1851 census.but i didn't know the bit about being a widow.I have just mailed him to ask him to take a look (and hopfully might join us) at my request to make sure i have given the right info.I have sent him some information i found in the Staffordshire Directories1828(Reference to Leeds Yorkshire)  to a Jopson. Margaret Academy col 1.
        jopson.William Machine maker col 25
The hit 2 gave me
Jopson. Margaret 82 Templer Street. Under occupations .
Jopson William. Machine Maker.I also found in the 1834 directory  Staffordshire Gazetteer Lane End &c (potteries
Academies Ann Jopson High Street. So maybe they were in Yorkshire in 1841 .But as William didn't appear in the 1834 Gazetteer (which covers about six counties)he might have died.

Hi Everyone (Celia & Suz etc)

Here's what I've tracked down so far: Edward Jopson was born in 1832, in Longton, Staffordshire. He was Christened on 21 March 1832, in Longton, Staffordshire, at either High Street Wesleyan Chapel or Lower Wesleyan Chapel(Familysearch.com.) He appears on the 1851 England Census, as an assistant Draper, in Hanley, Stoke Upon Trent, Staffordshire, aged 19. He migrated to Tasmania along with his sister Cicely Jopson, in 1853. In Tasmania, he often used his middle name "Beardsworth" on his children's birth certificates & marriage certificate etc. His parents are William & Ann Jopson (nee Beardsworth.) They were married on 31 May 1815, in St. John's Church, Preston, Lancaashire (familysearch.com.) Ann Jopson appears on both the 1851 & 1861 England census' along with Cicely & Mary Jopson (daughters) although Cicely is only on the 1851 Census. Ann Beardsworth was born in 1796, in Leyland, Lancashire & Christened on 19 Feb 1796 in the same place. On the 1851 Census, she is living in Stoke Upon trent, Staffordshire & in 1861, in Kendal, Westmorland. As Suz said & I didn't pick up at the time, she was a widow on both Census' so William obviously died before 1851! (Doh!) Cicely was born 13 Oct 1833, Longton, Staffordshire & Mary, Abt. 1830, in Hatherton, Cheshire. I guess the assistance I am seeking is any details on William Jopson & also Ann Beardsworth's ancestry.

Thanks a lot,

Mike.

Hi Celia,

I just wanted to clarify something with you. Is Ann's daughter's name spelt "Cicely" or Cecily? I have Cicely from the 1851 Census but you never know!

Ciao,

Mike
