Yes it does but time marches on and you don't know what info. is waiting somewhere! My father who I never knew as was 8months old was-Maurice Sedgwick RAF IBSU 26 group VR. Do you know what group your grandfather was in? Was he ever stationed at Thornaby? Anyhow will wait to hear your news when you hear back from the RAF.

I think he was at Finningley at some point, but that's the only thing I know.
I find it so sad that I can't ask anybody anymore...we lost both my nan and mum within 6 months of esch other in 2001.

My mum was only a little girl when he died, but she could remember the telegram arriving, and then her mum sitting on the stairs with her on her knee, crying.

I have the telegram now.

No mention of Finningley on my dad's record but some places were not named last time. Hope that's rectified if we get any more info. my sister's tell me of the telegram arriving and mum having to be sedated. You just feel so much for all the people who are still going through it now and for what?!!

I know, it's awful, at least my mum had a slight memory of her dad..you won't even have that, I can't imagine how that must feel.

Air Historical Branch
Building 824
RAF Northolt
West End Road
Ruislip
Middlesex HA46NG
My sister has just phoned to say she has been advised to write to here as nothing doing at Innsworth. And it was actually an officer here in '89 ( then at Great Scotland Yard) who gave me most of the places where my dad had been , but not all, on his record so you may do better at this address. Good Luck!

I was filling in some information for my family so they would know a bit about their grandfather and I came across this site.  My father, corporal in RAF, was killed on LST 420 when I was  10 months old.

I have managed to find the information on what happened on 7th November 1944 at 3pm. One school memory I have is when our teacher in the early 1950s asked all those who did not have daddies, to raise their hands.  I think it was well intentioned, but it hit home very hard.
