 :-\
My Grandfathers youngest brother was in the forces, he was born 1865 and was on the English census's 1871 & 1881, then after this ther's no sign of him.
I have been told he was with the South Africa Corp at some point in his career, but when I don't know.......
I have searched the national archive sire for him but there is no sign of himhere either.......
I have been told some records didn't survive, how can I find him?
His name was James Shard, he was born 1865, this was registered at Bolton, as he was born Kearsley.
He was in the St.Helens, Widnes area in 1895 as he married, but this is his second wife.....
Can anyone one help or give me some tips please

Hi Cissy,

After a little research for you,l think l may have found a little for you.It seems James mother wed a William Howarth around Nov 1875.
l found the family in the 1881 census, were James too the Howarth name, they lived at 18 Clare Street Manchester.
But due to the festive season here, thats about as far l got,as l have things to get ready for todays gathereing.

Hi Wizz
Thanks for looking, but James was down as Sharp in the 1881 census and living with his grandparents in Radcliffe, along with one of his brothers.........William.....
His mother did marry a William Howarth in 1875..they had a daughter Elizabeth in 1876...
But in 1881 they were in Widnes at 51 Lacey Street, along with Sarahs eldest son John Robert Shard...
Thanks for looking

Hope you had a good Christmas....
