Wendymcq Lookup 1841 Census Please
« on: Wednesday 20 December 06 06:01 GMT (UK) »
Hi Wendymcq
Could you please look up the 1841 Census for Thomas Banham & wife Sarah(nee Willett(s)) Thomas was chrisitened in Feltwell 1797 & also married in Feltwell 1828. There would possibly be a child Sarah also in 1841. Appreciate your time & effort.
Regards
Bev Betts

Hi Bev

As Wendy is offline, I wondered if I could find your Thomas.

There is a Thomas aged 40 (rememer they roun the ages down to a the nearest 5, so this does fit), who ia a farmer, born in Norfolk (the 1841 Cenus gives no more detail than the birth County)
His wife is Sarah, also 40
There are several children, all born in Norfolk:
John, who is 20 and a blacksmith
Edward, 19
Jane, 14
William, 8
Sarah, 6, and
Mary 2

They are all living at "Feltwell Pit Nr The Chequers"

I hope that's the ones you were after

All the best

Sure looks like that is the correct Banham's, especially with Son William aged eight. William came to Australia & the age fits.
Greatly appreciate your effort.  Rootscaht has come up trumps each time I have requested a look up. Love your work.
PS a question relating to Feltwell Pit near The Chequers, can you explain what this is. I guess it is a suburb????
Merry Xmas

Haven't a clue! I've looked at Multimap, and it's not there today. Feltwell is  too small to have a suburb. "Checkers" is I guess a house or a pub. Maybe near to some old gravel pit on the edge of the village?

Let's hope that someone who lives  nearby can come up woth something.

The General records did not start until 1837, so no chance, I'm afraid of looking anything up online.

But you know he was born in Feltwell, so you might be able to get along to Norwich Records Office and look up the Parish Records on microfilm/fiche.

If Norwich is too far away, you could try the nearest Church of Latter Day Saints, who often have family records centres, with copies of the microfilms. They will order films for you if they are not in stock.
