needle in a haystack!!
« on: Wednesday 20 December 06 16:27 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for Elizabeth Hughes, born in Llangollen/ Chirk in 1855. She was living in Manchester at 14 Byrom st when she married in 1873 to William Derbyshire. Her father is given as John Hughes, soldier.
So I'm looking for either of them in 1861 and 1871. I am having a bit of tough luck so far and any help would be great!

Hi! Llangollen is in North Wales. I thought about posting on the Wales boards but assumed that since she was in Manchester in 1873 and her father was a soldier, they might have been in Wales only temporarily.

Cheers for replying though!

Could this be her, (if her father was away soldiering), at a boarding school in Chester?  Where was future husband in 1871, do you know?

1871 RG10/3732 fol.62 p.2
32 Thorncliffe House, Liverpool Rd, Chester
Elizabeth Hughes  boarder 15 Scholar  Llangollen Denbighshire

Only one I can see in 1861 Wales is a niece living with uncle David Hughes - details if you want them.

Thanks for those! I have no way of knowing whether they are the right person! I think the manchester one in 1871 sounds good but wrong birth place. The second one living with uncle David sounds good too. I'll have to start ordering certificates I suppose... many thanks again for your efforts!
