Hi Tyler

I will scan and email a copy of Samuel's death certificate at the weekend.  Would you like a copy of his marriage certificate too??

I have been unable to go back any further than Samuel with certainty although I do have some possible suggestions for his parents/siblings.

I have researched all of his children including Michael so just ask if you want to know any more

Helen

Lillian66,
I would appreciate anything you have on him that could help both of us solve this mystery.

I have no concrete evidence of this but I
believe that Thomas and Jane(Noble)Porritt are the parents of Samuel. There was a gap in between Thomas and Thomasine in their family. I could be wrong but some others I have talked to agree with the conclusion. Altho I would rather have evidence.

Samuel married in 1830 in Liversedge, West Yorkshire.

On the 1841 census they are living in Beeston (near Leeds) and by 1851 census they have moved to Heckmondwike, West Yorkshire where they remained until his death in 1861 aged 51.

I am trying to find possible entries on the 1841/1851 census for his parents or siblings.

Samuel's first child (assumed as first per 1841 census) was born 1832 and christened Michael. Possibly fathers name??

Also, at his wedding one of the witnesses was a Thomas Porritt. Father or brother perhaps??

Did he marry Mary Parkinson in 1830?

Mary Porritt pob Liversedge bn 1812

Have you found her baptism?  - could it be that Michael was her father's name

1812 Birstall Mary Parkinson f Michael m Jane

Hi Tyler

Yes I too believe Samuel's parents were Thomas and Jane (Noble).  I have details of their marriage.

I have been unable to trace their son Thomas on any census returns and did wonder if Samuel may have changed his name.

All the other children seem to have moved to the Heckmondwike area around the same time as Samuel and I have traced them on census returns etc. I also have deaths in this area for Thomas and Jane.

Ironically, I live in Heckmondwike!!!

Will did out my files at the weekend.

Do you have any photos of Michael Porritt?? Or any details of when and how he travelled to America?? Also, did he fight in the Civil War??

Thanks
Helen

Helen,

I have no pictures yet. My dad's family don't get together to much so I have to call and talk with them to find it.

As far as Michael the only thing for immigration that I see is from 1864 in St Clair county Illinois. I'm guessing he fought in the civil war because all I have is a pension paper that Mary signed after he died.
