Lost Rice Family After 1901 Census
« on: Thursday 21 December 06 02:54 GMT (UK) »
In 1901 Sace Rice (widowed) b. 1852 Barbados and her children

Beatrice May b. 1878 Canada
Ida Mary b. 1880 Hampshire
James Ernest b. 1882 Ascencion Islands
Frank Charles b. 1884 Portsmouth (died WWI)
Ethel Mable b. 1886 Portsmouth
Arthur George b. 1889 Sheerness
Rupert James b. 1891 Sheerness

were  living at 18 Mortlake Villas, Napier Road, Gillingham, Kent.

After that I have lost them.  Is anyone else researching the Rice family in Kent?  I would really like to find out what happened to them and any subsequent children.  Apart from Ethel that is who was my grandmother and she got married in 1920 and moved to Edinburgh.

Thanks Kay

Kay,

Have you checked the church registers at CityArk's Medway Ancestors site:

www.cityark.medway.gov.uk

They've put the images online and they are free.  However, they are not indexed.

Since Matt has posted some dates of marriages, that would be a good starting point.  I would suggest starting with the images from the churches in Gillingham.  You just might find them!

Regards,
Josephine

Thank you to all who responded.  I found that Ida married Frederick Talbot and Beatrice married Frank Ellis.

I tried the Medway Ancestors website but it just kept getting hung up and I could not get through.  Perhaps it is no longer working - pity that as I think it may have helped.

Merry Christmas to all   :D

Kay,

I couldn't get through today, either, but I'm sure it's just temporary.  Maybe a lot of people are on their Christmas vacation and all visiting the website at once!  Or maybe (cross your fingers) they are adding even more info to their wonderful site!

Try again another time soon and I bet you'll get on!

Josephine
