Middlesex Census Whitechapel
« on: Wednesday 17 November 04 21:39 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Can anyone help me, my great Nan was as follows
Ellen Green  Born 1870    married June 1891
could not find her on the 1871, 1881 and 1891 census
I have her birth and marriage certificate
her father was John Green  mother Emily Green formerly Leal but found out that it is Leat
obviously a error somewhere along the way.

Would like to know if she had brothers or sisters, alot of people have tried with no luck, can not understand where she was, she actually got married in Bethnal Green in June 1891.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.  Maxine

I've found the following - it may be a bit of a red herring, but there do seem to be some similarities:

From the 1871 Census:

19 Ashcroft Road Court Tower Hamlets

George D Leale (Head) - Age 58 (Schoolmaster)
Rose Leale (Wife) - Age 45
George D Leale (Son) Age 11
Amelia E Joseph (Wife's Daughter) Age 22
Alice A Joseph (Wife's Daughter) Age 14
Ellen Green (Wife's Daughter) Age 20
Ellen E Green (Granddaughter) Age 8 months

What do you think ?

Richard
Butler - Ramsgate (Kent)
Shepherd - West Mersea (Essex)
Tettersell - Brighton (Sussex)
Buss - Maidstone (Kent)
Geldard - Leeds (Yorkshire)

Hi Maxine

There are a couple of possibles in 1881 with wife specified as Emma (not Emily). Do you have the birthplace of Ellen?
Also, was Ellen's father's profession on the marriage certificate? This may give a clue as to whether they could have been out of the country during the census.

A start:

Emily Leat married John Green at Bethnal Green in the June qtr of 1870 volume 1c, page 538. Cert required to advance the cause

1881 census...COULD THIS BE THEM? but where is Ellen? was she definitely born in 1870, when she married who are the WITNESSES?

MEOT means Mile end old town.
