Bearman/Pine Family Stoke Dameral look up 1841/51
« on: Wednesday 17 November 04 22:21 GMT (UK) »
My gggg grandfather William Bearman married Jane Pine at The Parish Church, Stoke Dameral 26th January, 1842.  His occupation is given as shoemaker and the address given is 44 Sco*e Street for him and no 23 in same street for her.  His father is listed as William Bearman shoemaker and hers as Joseph Pine shipwright.

Can anyone find these families prior to or after this wedding date.

As it's close to the border, I'm not sure if Stoke is going to be Devon or Cornwall. You've nothing to lose by checking freecen.rootsweb.com for yourself for that time period.

Be sure to come back with any results (or even lack thereof).

Just doing a bit of housekeeping on the Devon Board. Are you still looking for this or have you since found the information? Just confirming if some of these older requests are still required. Kris  :D

Hi yes thanks,

Still don't know where William Bearman was in 1841, he had a child in Devon in 1843, East Stonehouse,William and George in Plymouth in 1849. George's death is registered in  East Stonehouse in 1852.   But in 1851 he and his family are in Somerset Taunton according to the census.  But an 8 year old William who was born in Devon is not with them on it, but hasn't died, because he reappears later.

So still a few mystery's involving this lot, I am wondering if there is a Pine relative in Devon that William and George stay with, when the rest move to Somerset, for George to die in East Stonehouse and William not to be in Taunton in 1851, although George is on the 1851 census with his parents in Taunton.

Thanks for all help on this

I am really sorry but 1841 has got me no further than 1851 did. I have been over everything again. The only Joseph Pine in 1841 and 1851 is a Bootmaker. He does not have a daughter Jane in 1841. There are no Bearmans at all in the 51 census I cannot find young William no matter what I try. There is no William Bearman in 1841 Devon either. I had a look at the Somerset entry from 1851  and note that William is a Marine no POB is listed Jane lists as born Rochester. I am wondering if perhaps the connection to Devon is purely his work. I just don't know what to suggest. I expected they would at least show up in 1841. Sorry Kris   :'(

Thanks Kris,
These Bearman's of mine are so troublesome, they never stayed in one place very long. Until they finally settled in Greenwich in the 1860's.  Their children are born all over the place; Hampshire, Devon, Somerset, Greenwich.  I did wonder if the marriage cert got the dad's occupations the wrong way round and that it was Joseph Pine who was the Shoe/bootmaker and not William Bearman senior.  Pines were originally Rochester Kent and Bearman's originated Essex.  1861 says William c 1812 was born Barking.  There seems to be a naval connection to the moves - one child was born in Portsmouth.

Oh well, it wouldn't be fun if it was easy.
