OPR birth brickwall
« on: Friday 22 December 06 13:34 GMT (UK) »
Ancestor Grizel Clarkson married in 1794 in Muiravonside.Banns say both parties of this parish yet in the OPR I can find no record of her, and she does not appear in any census records. She is still around in 1830 as she is pursuing a legal action at that time. I have found a Kathreine Clarkson borrn 1766 but no other female Clarkson/ clerkson at that time.  Any help/ advice welcomed.

Clarkson was her maiden name. She appears as Grizel Clarkson aka Bryce in a legal process in 1829.  She appears as Grizel Clarkson on her son's death certificate.
Grizel Bryce born 1830 I think is  possibly grandaughter
have found Grizels in Douglas but that is in Lanarkshre.
A real brickwall here I fear.

Hi Chris,

There is always a possibility that Grizel was not born in the Muiravonside area.  Do you have any idea what her parents' names may have been (can possibly be worked out if family followed naming pattern)?  This may help you see if there is a possibility she was born elsewhere.

Cheers,

The fact that the marriage says both of this parish may only mean that they were there at the time - not that they were born there so she could be from anywhere in the area I'm afraid.   A long search of other parish records ahead.

1841 census says there is 24 grizel's living in scotland born between 1770-1780, no doubt one of these is yours, but she is not bryce nor clarkson

is there something you are not telling us? still not seen the name of you grizel's husband.

would any of these bryce's be yours?

So far no one has mentioned Grace as an alternative to Grizel. I did check earlier but didn't come up with anything for births.

It's a thought  :)

Grizel Clarkson married William Bryce in 1794. Father of William Bryce was Allan Bryce (family documents) Children of the marriage were Janet, James, Allan, William and Jean.
Cornelious Bryce was a cousin. Bryce family tree well established but Clarksons a mystery. Thanks everyone for your help, always appreciated. The more the merrier, if I can help anyone also I will. I have access to pre 1855 Muiravonside burials if anyone needs anything. Merry Christmas all !

Sorry, said that Cornelious was a cousin, he wasn't he was William Bryce's Brother and therefore Grizel Bryce's bro-in law.
