advice please?
« on: Sunday 24 December 06 01:22 GMT (UK) »
If i have a persons army roll number is it possible to find out information about when and where they served?
The number begins T/........ i believe that is for transport???
If the person is deceased can others have access to records??
Also are there any ways in which you can find out about leave they had taken whilst serving in the 2nd world war up to 1950's ?
I recently was told he may have been bitten by a venomous snake whilst serving - would that help?

i cannot find any other info on this person but know he served with a lancashire regiment possibly the fusiliers! i believe he was in India and Burma

if i can get some info about when he was in the army it may help or maybe not but you never know until you try!

does the hundred year rule apply to war docs like the census?

I suggest you may want to join the WW2 talk forum at  http://www.ww2talk.com/
and post there.  There is a wealth of knowledge on that site.  Also if you post you may want to provide more info like service number, name etc. that way people are more likely and able to help.

Hi Em

If you are the next of kin (or can get their permission) then you can apply for their service record

Thank you will try that!
p.s.  How does this next of kin thing work?  My grandfather who I am searching for information on died in 1970 and his wife my Grandmother died in 1978 and she would have been the next of kin.  Does this kinship pass down to the next generation? In which case would it be easier for my uncle to request the document as he was their eldest child?

Yes, his children would be next of kin if his wife is now deceased also.  They will probably require proof of death for your grandfather (and possibly your grandmother) - presumably somebody in the family will have a copy of the death certificate(s).

Your uncle or any of his siblings can apply or else you can apply if they give their consent (in writing).

Merry Christmas

That's great!
Thanks for clearing that up for me!
I wasn't too sure about the whole process but that sounds a bit more positive.
I truly have no idea about military matters!!!
thank you very much for your help

Hi em79,   I have only just found this site.   I am a researcher for the Lancashire Fusiliers web site, lancs-fusiliers.co.uk.

The 1st Bn, 1/8th and 10th Bn's all served in India and Burma.   We have  extensive coverage on the web site.   Why not pay it a visit.

Any questions contact our website editor, email address removed in accordance with Rootschat's policy - please use the secure Rootschat personal message system to exchange email addresses - thankyou
In fact any one else interested in the Lancashire Fusiliers do so like wise.
