Need help finding more info on Robert Shard...........

Robert Shard born 5th August 1884 in Widnes....
His father was James Shard born 1865, registered at Bolton, although born in Kearsley...
Mother ...Unknown.... this is why I'm trying to find info so that i can apply for a birth cert....
William Shard was James's Brother....

I have looked at 1891 with no success. It is confusing now that you have two threads about him.
Was James married twice or was he the father of a Robert?

Sorry to be going on - I can't find him in birth records for 3rd quarter 1884 - this implies that he was registered perhaps with another surname?

I am told that James married twice, although can only find the second one, the one in 1895.....
The problem is that james was on the 1881 census, but he too then disappeared, I'm led to believe he joined the Army and served with the south africa corp, at some point...
He could have married anywhere...
His mum was living in the Widnes area in 1891 as was his other brother John Robert Shard....
James isn't on the 1901 census either, but I have his death cert and he died in 1908 at Bury Union Workhouse....
This family causes such a headache...


Robert married twice, or so I'm told....
His second marriage was to his cousin in 1912....Elizabeth Shard..
Would not have had to show his birth cert before he married....

I can't find either,and with his father only being 19 ,I wondered whether they actually married that early,perhaps he was registered in Annie's maiden name???
