Vic/SA Birth Lookup - FRASER
« on: Tuesday 26 December 06 08:55 GMT (UK) »
Hi All

Looking for another of my BiL's grandparents: Alexander Fraser b c 1880 in Ballarat.  He married Lavinia Graham in Kalgoorlie in 1910.

The family legend is that one of his ancestors came to SA on one of the first ships and was the only baby to survive the voyage, so they may have been in SA for a while.

Cheers, Jane  :)

This is likely to be the senior Alexander's birth, as Newtown is near Geelong, and Stewart appears in a child's name.

Alexander FRASER, reg Newtown, Vic  1856 #9034
father: Donald FRASER
mother: Catherine STEWART (in index as STWEART)

A marriage does not show up in the Vic index.  The first child to show up is Donald - registered in 1854 at Geelong #6580

Thanks Ruth & Christine.  :)

The only information I had on him was from the birth registration of his daughter, so nothing of parents or sibs.

That transposition of Stewart was well spotted! ::)

A marriage does not show up in the indexes for South Australia, nor do any births for children.     Alexander's 1856 Vic birth will give you his parents' birthplaces, ages, and when and where they married.  This will then tell you if it is this line that has the family legend - they may have arrived already married.

Hope this helps

Christine

Thanks.  I'll try the Vic passenger lists too.
