Thanks.  I'll try the Vic passenger lists too.

Cheers, Jane

I think that you will find that the name is far too common to make any guesses.

Especially when you do not know from where they originated.  It may be that they were both born and bred in another State and not overseas.

Hello Again

I hope everyone has recovered from the various Christmas excesses??  ::) ;D

My sister downloaded a few certificates last night.  Donald & Catherine were married in Kilmonivaig in Scotland in 1852, so must've arrived in Australia c1853 (so there goes another family legend  :( ) and I've their marriage and Donald's christening record parents in the IGI.

Is there a death record for Catherine Fraser (nee Stewart), as that may indicate her parents.

A death registration for Margaret Simpson Fraser (nee Hardie) would also be handy.  I found a possibility for her in the IGI (b 25 Mar 1852 par: George Hardie & Agnes Simpson) but confirmation from the death cert would be good.

Thanks, Jane

The only reliable place for parents names are the marriage certificate - since a death certificate is only as good as the knowledge of the informant and can be completely wrong.    Since they used the name of Agnes Simson for a child, you can be fairly certain that they are her parents.

Thanks Again  :-*

The first Cath Fraser looks promising as she was born c 1825.  Bit out but as you say it depends on the knowledge of the informant

Cheers, Jane

The last child that Donald and Catherine had registered was 1864 at WABALLAH, Victoria.

From the index, there appears to be a Catherine Stewart married to a John FRASER, who had a child in Benalla, so this one below is probably her death.  They married 1857 in Victoria.

Catherine FRASER died aged 52, Benalla, 1883 # 408
parents unknown.

Found Margaret's death -
Margt Simpson FRASER, died aged 64, reg Ballarat, 1920 #8545
father: George HARDIE, mother unknown
