James Fraser b 1839
« on: Wednesday 27 December 06 18:26 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone make a connection with James Fraser born in Lundie in 1839 and in 1861 working as a ploughman in the Mains of Edzell bothie?

He may be my greatgrandmother, Annie Fraser's, father whom I have been searching for for a long time.

Thank you.

Jim Murray

Hi there Joe,

Thank you for all your helpful information.  I think you have got the same James Fraser as I was looking at.

The problem is that my greatgrandmother, Ann or Annie Fraser, was illegitimate and it is very difficult to identify the right father.  All I know is that he was recorded on Ann's birth record (18/9/62), at Dun, as an agricultural labourer; on her marriage record (3/12/80), in the parish of Brechin as a farm servant; and on her death certificate (13/8/13) as farm labourer (deceased).

Ann's mother, Christina Kinnear, was working at the time of the 1861 census in the Hillside area of Montrose, whilst her parents were living in Dun.  The contact with James would have been just about 8 months later so I am hoping to pin down James from the many men of the same name by close locality and occupation.

Really although it's a very long shot I'm hoping to come across a descendant of the right James Fraser who can confirm his parenthood of Ann.

Thanks again.

Jim Murray

Hi

I think I have your James (Senior) in the 1861 census at Upper Smithston?, Lundie, widowed, aged 59, Farm Servant, born Forfarshire, Montrose.
He's living with his daughter Agnes aged 26, unmarried out-door worker, born Forfarshire, Lundie.

They are the only Frasers there, other occupants of the house/farm are the Barnet? family.

That seems to tie in with Joe's researches. Let me know if you want a copy - I seem to have accumulated quite a few Fraser records, none of whom are related!

Hope this helps
