   Thats what grandad always said. He has since died and only his half sisters are alive so they have no more info for me.

 I suppose even if he died "away" from home an obit. would be in the local paper or a small news story.

 Will Try the Leighton Buzzard Observer they may have the old copies I don't think they are on the web for that date.

    Thanks Jean...

Hi tazzie

Still trying to see what I can find in the censuses but this death looked a bit closer to home

Deaths Dec 1907   (>99%)
~~~~~~~~
Green  Albert James  25  Bedford  3b 178
Age is maybe a bit high and there is the additional name of course.
Will let you know what I find on the censuses.
Where was Elizabeth in the 1901 census?  There are so many Albert Greens and your man may have come from an entirely different county - I am just trying to find some possible links.
Barbara
Edit - just found her under the name of Betsy in Leighton Buzzard.
Not very much luck with the censuses tazzie..
In 1901 there are 3 Albert Greens in Bedfordshire born in 1885 + or - 2 years.
One is with widowed mother Annie but he is a solicitor's clerk.
The second is with parents Joseph and Elizabeth.
The third is with brother George and his family in Bedford St Paul..  The 2 brothers come from Lymington in Hants and both are General labourers.
The third Albert looks the most likely and I will do some further checks on him in the previous censuses - have not had much luck in tracking him in 1891 so far.
Albert could of course have been almost anywhere in 1901 - pity he doesn't have a more distinctive name!
Sorry but that does not seem to be the correct Albert.  He gets older on each census being 2 months in 1881 and his parents are James and Emma.
Back to the drawing board!
   Hi Barbara...
  Times like this oh how I wish I could find an more  distinct name.
 Its a bit like looking for John Smith isn't it?
 Did find what I think is the Lymington Albert b @1881 according to 1881 his brother George is 18 years old and their father is James.
 I do not think he is from Bedfordshire but he could be from anywhere at the moment.
  I did find a birth in Leeds for 1884 q2 for an Albert.
   Why Leeds ..well I put John Green  inton 1881 with just the words Hay for occupation and got John a hay&straw dealer b 1840 Halton Yorks...he has a son called Walter....my grandad was called Walter...tenuous link I know but heh nothing ventured I suppose.
   Off to dig about .
    Hi
  The Albert James d 1907 Bedford looks to be b 1882 Biggleswade.
 In 1891 he is age 9 with parents Jonah & Annie RG12/1256 F64 P 24 SCH148 at Shortmead St Biggleswade.
 So the age is out by 4 years but Jonah..John could be a link
Hi tazzie
I have had a look at the 1891 census for an Albert b abt 1885 with a father John but there are rather a lot of them.  Have checked a few but there are many, as is to be expected, where the father is an Ag Lab or similar. Unfortunately occupations are not always given specifically and  Ag Lab covers a multitude of jobs.
I was amazed to find only 2 John Greens in the 1881 with "Hay" in their occupation.
You mentioned a "tenuous link" because of the name Walter - I was going to suggest that we look at naming patterns - really clutching at straws now  ;D
Will let you know if I have any bright ideas.
Barbara
Have just seen your posting about Albert James - worth considering  :)
Edit: spoke too soon - in 1901 that Albert is the solicitors clerk
   Sorry Barbara   ...willing to look at any now as you can imagine :D
 Clutching at straws ;D hay I would hope!
  Naming patterns....1st son Albert 1905
                                 2nd son Reggie 1906
                                 3rd son Walter 1907
  Thats why Elizabeth married so quickly to Sidney Simpson he was also a widower his wife died soon after child birth. They then had 4 more.
