Hello Cass
Copies of the Evening Chronicle are kept on microfilm at the Newcastle City Library Local and Family History which is at the moment in the Exhibition Hall at Newcastle Civic Centre. You would need to have a good idea of when your notice was published as in the 1985/87 period I think each film only covers 1 month so working through 3 years would take a long time
                                               Grant

Hello Grant.       I live near to Newcastle, So my question is, Do you have to book in advance  to read the  the microfilm  or can you just pop in. and how far does the death notice's go back do they cover all of the newspapers ie journal, and the newspapers that do not exist  to day.
I will tell you why I am looking for information on a John Rutherford who was Mayor in Jarrow 1895, he was councillor before then in 1884. he also was the landlord of the public house called the Turf Hotel in Jarrow 1881.I believe he could be a relative as as his nephew was called James Chandler Kilgour and both names Kilgour and Rutherford  run thought  my  Rutherford line.   of course I could be completely wrong. ;D but still it is interesting. I have also been told that Jarrow had it own  local newspaper back then  which I was given the name of but I have lost it  it was on a scrap of  paper   :-[ :'(

Hello Janette
          Here is your other Tate
Microfilm DA 21
Evening Chronicle Friday 8th July 1892 Page 2
Tate_ Ouston Springs, 7th inst, aged 77 years, Joseph Tate. Interment at Pelton, Sunday 10th at 4 o'clock. All friends kindly invited

Regarding the accident to Edward Tate there may be further coverage in more local newspapers some of which I think are kept at Gateshead( they have a list of what they have on their website) and South Shields Library I believe have papers for that area There may be more coverage of the accident itself

Hello Cherryberry
There is no booking for film readers at the Family and Local History Centre it is just first come first served if you have a look at the Newcastle City Council website under libraries there is a link to the family history section which lists the newspapers they have on film and as bound volumes. South Shields Library and Gateshead Library would I think also have copies of papers which would contain the kind of information you would find useful
                                             Regards
