Trying to find a marriage
« on: Thursday 04 January 07 15:03 GMT (UK) »
I have been looking for the marriage of James Wallce and Agnes Norris

They are on the 1881 census in Eccles and have 5 children

James aged 36 though born in Northumberland in 1843 <2yrs>
Agnes aged 31 born England

eldest son is John born 11 Sept 1867. On his cert they state their marriage as 9 Oct 1866 Coldstream

youngest son is james born 4 Mar 1880 Eccles. Onhis cert their marriage is 9 Oct 1865 Coldstream

The other children were all born in England though I don't know where.

Can anyone find them in the 1891 census and does it give place of birth in that one?

Thanks

Carol

Hi Carol  :)

I've checked and can find no registration for them 1764-1875 in Scotland :(

When you refer to the 1891 are you refering to Scotland or England (Eccles?) ?

Regards

Hi CarolBurns and Gadget,

Gadget--I would be glad to supply Carol with the marriage entry.

Are you sure they are married in Scotland?

Cheers,

Tees

Hi Tees  :)

There just isn't one on SP that I can find. It might well have been an irregular or common law one. I'll do a double check.

Did they die England, Carol?

My goodness - so many messages in such a short time

Right first things first - the marriage of James and Agnes is down as two dates so thatmade ma think that they might just have made it all up to look decent (typical of hubby's family lol)

The Eccles I am looking at is the Berwick one.

Where did John come from in 1901? Is  he a Grandson do you think or is he down as son? The eldest son was called John though I found no trace of him after 1881.

I wonder of they married in Tweedmouth - which is Berwick isn't it? But the english side. Maybe that is where their marriage could be.

They seem to have swapped and changed depending on what they thought  to answer first with.

What a family this is - never keep the same name for longer than 2 minutes and always swapping their place of birth etc

No wonder nobody else is researching them and I can't find another family member to share with - too many headaches

Carol

PS Glad to see you back Gadget  :-*

Hi Gadget & CarolBurns,

Where is Coldstream exactly?

Have one of you googled it?

Carol, did one of your couple sign their names on their son's birth cert?

Wondering if your Agnes had married before?

Kind regards,

Tees
