Two Essex queries
« on: Thursday 04 January 07 15:18 GMT (UK) »
The Galpin/Galpen family were in Essex (Maldon registration area) in the late 1700s/early1800s. Is this likely to have been an Essex name, as I can find no reference to it in the censuses of 1841/1851.

The family name Ockendon:
Can anyone help me with parish records for Billericay, please ?

Thanks,

Fizzy

There are a few Galpins (and Galpines and Gallopins) on the IGI for some Essex parishes - mostly in the 18th century.

Unfortunately there are no  Maldon parish record transcripts on the IGI (as I know to the detriment of my own research)

Thanks for the suggestions for alternatives to Galpin etc. The only thing that I could come up with is that Galpen is a place in Sweden !!!

Hi Fizzybubble

Being quite new to the site I've been reading old posts to see if I can help anyone!

Regarding the Ockendon family in Billericay, is it only Billericay parish you are interested in or surrounding areas too?

If you can give me some more specific names, dates and events you are looking for, I may be able to help..........

 :)

Not sure if this is any help to you but did you know that there are some PRs for Maldon on the Essex Records Office SEAX system?  These are online, free to view and appear to cover the years 1556 to around 1812, for Maldon All Saints, St Peter and also St Mary.  You can log on as a Guest.

http://seax.essexcc.gov.uk/login.asp

On the first page click on Guest.
On the next page go to the right hand side and click on Image Search.
On the next page, in the box entitled Text to search for, simply type in Maldon parish register.

Regards
Concentrating currently on:
Essex: Card, Harris, Stowell, Theobald/Tibbles & Turner.
Norfolk: Beale, Cork & Dalton.
Yorkshire: Oswald Sturdy birth/baptism c1708, Oswald where the devil are you?
