Blacklers Dept Store, Liverpool
« on: Sunday 07 January 07 20:13 GMT (UK) »
Hi,  Can anyone tell me if they used to take on young girls and train them to be beauticians at Blacklers in the 30's?

Thanks

Diane

Hi Diane

The 30's was befor my time But i worked in Liverpool in the sixties and often went to blacklers,It was a lovely shop.I don't know if they had a beauty shop/Salon but it would not surprise me if they did.
They did have cosmetic counters, and in those days the assistants had to know all about what they were selling so Blacklers may have trained them. Also they had to be able to give advice on things like skincare.I remember they sold very expensive perfume,it was to me ;D I worked in whitchaple five and a half days a week. My wages was £7
