Joplin's Brewery, Liverpool
« on: Sunday 07 January 07 20:47 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone possibly help me with information about Joplin's Brewery?  I have tried a google search with nothing found at all.

The reason I'm interested is that I have a one shilling 'coin' dated 1879 which says on the reverse:

Joplins Ales
Brewery & Head Office
Always Alike
106 to 200
London Rd L'Pool
Bright & Sparkling

A friend of my mother's was housekeeper to old Mr Joplin in the early 50's when I was three or four.  He used to give me money, though I can't say that this is where the 'coin' came from.

I would really love to know something more about Mr Joplin and the brewery.
Many thanks

Dave

Thanks Iria

This must be the family because we lived on St Mary's Road, Huyton in the early fifties.  If it was William then he would have been well into his 80's then.

I hope someone can tell me something about the brewery and/or the 'coin' I have.

Thanks again
Dave

There are a few documents in the NA. From the description of this one it appears that Joplins was taken over by Cains in 1907 http://www.a2a.org.uk/search/records.asp?cat=1072-m380pwk&cid=18-1-5

Thank you retiringtype, that very interesting.  I may try to contact Cains in that case to see if they can help with the 'coin'.
