Just an of chance, but has your friend searched the loft thoroughly?

A lot of old soldiers kept their shoulder / collar and cap badges with medals stuffed away in a corner in a tin.

The beret looks like possible two tipes of beret:
1. A Corbean(Irish regiment).
2. WW2 issued Gabardine beret(General issue)

hiya'll
had this reply from Vanessa, she said was ok to post

Hi Julie.
Thank you so much for doing that for me.
There are many interesting theories that they came up with for me to think about.
I myself do not have any other photos of my father in uniform but will ask around the family to see if they have any.
My father died in a nursing home and had very little in the way of possessions
My baby brother has most of them and he passed the photos on to me.
I have managed to find 2 of my fathers brothers still alive in Liverpool but they can not remember when he joined the army but that it was Liverpool that he joined up from.
I will keep you up dated on what i find out from the rest of the family.
Thank you again.

Vanessa

kind regards

Julie
