The Griffiths family of Yorke St., Wrexham
« on: Wednesday 10 January 07 19:34 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone have this family in their tree?   Apparently, they ran the fish shop on Yorke St. in the first half of the 1900s.   Prior to that, they came from Rhostyllen, Bersham, Ruabon and Esclusham Below.   Thomas Griffiths b.1865 was a Coal Miner.   He married Margaret Edwards in 1887.
They had at least 13 children.
If anyone can give me any further information, I'll be delighted.   Thankyou.   Val.

I was able to find Thomas Griffiths easy enough in the earlier Census, but failed in finding Margaret Edwards when she was single.

Thanks for trying, William.   I couldn't find Margaret in the 1871 or '81 censuses.   I found someone working at Wynnstay Park Stud, aged 15, who may be her - and probably is because she later worked at Esless Hall, so it could fit; but in 1871 I assume she'd have been with her parents - her father was called Richard - but nothing ties up.   Maybe they weren't in Denbighshire then.   Regards, Val.

He was a Collier and still alive in 1887 at the time of Margaret's marriage - if the certificate can be believed!

There is a "Margret" Edwards showing in Ruabon born in c 1866 in 1871 and the daughter of Richard and Jane, but her Father is listed as a Labourer.

Do you think someone working as a labourer in 1871 could have gone on to be a collier?   I don't think he told a fib for the wedding cert. because the groom's father stated he was a labourer, so Richard wasn't trying to "keep up" or anything.
Thanks again for looking.
Regards, Val.
