Mary Ann jones,Railway cottage Talgarth
« on: Thursday 11 January 07 15:21 GMT (UK) »
~~~~~~~~
This lady was the informant of the death of James Michael ,bootmaker of Hay in May 1889.
I can find no family connection but there must be one somewhere.
I would really appreciate it if someone could find her on a Census for me.
I`ve had no luck with the 1881 or 1901
Many thanks,
Carrie Ann
Looking at the Mary A Jones's in Talgarth 1891 (being the closest to maybe be in the same place)
One looks to be at Wainfach Cottage wife 57, living with husband daur and gdaur
The next address looks to be Gyn y cmu ?? wife 42 husband & 4 children
Trevsoca? Village niece
BUT
You can forget all those the next one I find is
Railway Cottage  RG12/4578  71/3
Thomas Jones head M 60 Railway Ganger Brecon Hay
Mary A do wife M 56 Brecon Talgarth
Amelia do daur S 20 Dressma (crossed out) Brecon Talgarth
Could they have been neighbours? I have a death certificate where the informant was a neighbour (& I so wanted it to be a family member!)
Thank you so much Tricia,I think you may have opened an interesting new chapter for me.
James Michael`s wife who pre-deceased him was also a Mary Ann Jones.
Now I`m wondering if this Thomas Jones you found might have been a brother. I have found only two other siblings for her so far and thought there might be more. Her sister Louisa was born Brecon Town 1830 and Thomas was born Brecon 1831 by the look of it.
It would make this Mary Ann her  sister-in law  which might have been why she was with James  in Hay when he died.
Hi Carrie
I looked at 1841/51 but haven't the same Thomas Jones in both. Note that Thomas is listed in 1891 as born in Hay, Breconshire (not Brecon Town)
In 1841 there is only one Thomas Jones of approx right age in Hay - he has a sister Mary Ann but no Louisa.
I find a Mary Ann  13, Louisa 10 with parents John & Mary living in Merthyr Tydfil  Glamorgan (daughters not born in County)  in 1841 - no sign of any brothers - Is this your family?
Thank you for your efforts Trish.
The parents were ,John Jones  b Clyro 1777,  Ann b Hereford town according to the ,Dowlais Merthyr 1851 Census  but haven`t been able to find them on the 1841 anywhere. John describes himself as a journeyman baker ,children I have found so far,Mary Ann b Chepstow c 1818,Catherine b Leigh GLS 1821 and Louisa b 1830 Brecon town. I`m sure there are more children somewhere given the gap between Catherine and Louisa.
Also given the Clyro connection they are very likely to have lived in Hay at some time I would have thought which wouldn`t then eliminate Thomas as their son.
John Jones  is on the 1861 living in Dowlais with daughter Catherine Nancarrow widow of Walter Chambers (b Glasbury)re -married 1858.Two of Catherine`s children go and live with the Michael`s in Hay after Walter`s death.
That`s why I can`t understand a "stranger" from Talgarth registering James Michael`s death.
