Hello
anyone know the most likely location of a leatherworks where the workforce (from my family) lived in the Everton area ? Period I'm looking at is around 1890 -1902 poss before also.

Hi Kelt !

I found this ..... leather works in Garston .... but that's quite a way from Everton !!  :-\

You might try Scottie Press - they may have some information and if they don't - they may be able to steer you in the right direction !!

Found references to a Hawthorne Tannery Smelling Works on a map.

When you Google variants of the above it is now land for re development after a fire.  Its not in Everton but is nearer.  Bootle, near the canal and Sefton council are dealing with the planning etc for this redevelopment.

The map details are on Genfair and is for the year 1906

I knew the tannery by the canal in Bootle. The smell from it was awful!

1860 Kellys lists a tannery in North Dingle, Kirkdale owned by Geo Pitts & Son, which is probably  the one you are interested in. North Dingle is in the Everton area.
