Christie Family in Sunderland
« on: Thursday 11 January 07 17:52 GMT (UK) »
I wonder if someone can help me as I have got stuck.

The person I am looking for is George William Christie, B c1880 in Sunderland.  In 1900 he married Elizabeth Hannah Batey.

His fathers name is Robert Christie.
I have found George on the 1901 census with his new wife in the village of fulwell.  But I have no look on finding his birth or any other census'.

Does anyone have any advice or can help me with this.

Thanks

MissyD

Hello MissyD and a very warm welcome to Rootschat

Having read your post I think the best way to proceed is to get Georges birth certificate which will give you his mothers name.
There are so many Robert Christies with so many different birth dates  on other cencuses that its impossible to know which could be him so Georges mothers name would give us a better chance of finding him.

Good luck

Missy,I cant find George in 1881 or 1891.
And cant find his birth ref no either on Free Bmd or Ancestry.

I agree with Joe you need to write to Sunderland Registry Office asking for a birth Cert for George William Christie born 1879-1881 with Father Robert. And hope you hit lucky and there is only one.
What is Roberts occupation on Georges marriage cert and what was Georges address on marriage cert?

Best Wishes Welsh Lady

Hi Joe and Welsh Lady,

Thanks for your responses.

Robert Christie's profession was shoemaker.
At the time of marriage of George both him and Elizabeth were living in ? Cottage, Wallsend.  Unfortunately it isn't a brilliant copy from the GRO and is rather hard to read.

I will try the Records Office in Sunderland but wondered if there were other options first.

Thanks again

Missy

One thing I have just been told is that George William Christie was supposedly in France during World War One.

Where would I look to see if this is true?

Thanks

Have looked 1878-1882 for birth of George William Christie - nothing

There is a George Alfred, born Sunderland in Oct/Nov/Dec 1880

But he was clearly married as George William (O/N/D 1900, Tynemouth area)

Maybe either age on marriage cert is way out, or he was actually a completly different name but used George William for some reason!
