I E Mailed the Liverpool Record Office giving Robert's details and also asked about newspapers which may contain his death notice.

Perhaps there are others who may be able to find later Steads of the Crosby Methodist family.
I am not yet familiar enough with a computer to look at web sites which can give addresses and telephone numbers.

Robert's ancestors back to 1801 on the Stead side were born in Leicester - I doubt there's a Crosby connection on that side of the family.

From the phonebook listings it looks like Jeanie Grant moved to 39 Ilford Avenue in Crosby in 1960 and was there until 1972.

There is a Registration of Death as follows:
March Quarter 1978       Liverpool Registration District
Jeanie Graham Grant     born 27th August 1893

Was this when sister Elizabeth Hurst moved into Sheltered Housing?  She would have been 82/83 years old.

Reiver, yes that looks right for Jeanie, and 1978 therefore probably was the time that Elizabeth moved into sheltered accommodation.

Elizabeth and Jeanie Grant had a brother James P ( I think it was James Peterkin) Grant born 1898/1899 - I wonder what became of him?

Shaun
I wonder whether James Peterkin Grant b 1898/99 ought to go on the back burner for a while. It would mean trying to track him through to current days like you were able to do for his sister.

My thought now is that we perhaps ought to establish for certain Robert's brothers and/or sisters.  They and any younger generations are more akin to him that perhaps his wife's family.

I don't know what you and others think?  Have we any facts?

I had a track back though on the 1901 Census investgatiosns very early on - but found it awkward to resolve who Robert's family were.

Reiver, as far as we know the only sibling of Robert Stead was Norah (1893 -1881) who married George Galloway Dobell.

The feeling of the team back 9 months or so ago was that we ought not to spend time pursuing the Dobell line, but it may be the only one left to pursue.

Will send a PM re the Stead/Grant tree.
