Lancaster Workhouse

Hi

In my 3 years of research this is the first time that I have found an ancestor in the workhouse.  It sounds daft but it has made me feel really low.

My 3 x gr grandfather William Skirrow entered there between the 1891 and 1901 censuses being taken.  He was 74 when he died later in 1901.

Can anyone help me to find out more about him or the workhouse itself.

Oh...this is sad, Half-pint...:-(

Don't forget though, - there were no pensions then...& often the only option for old people was the Workhouse:-(((

At least it meant a roof over their heads, - when they were too old to work.

I totally agree with what your saying.

It just came on the day that my son is celebrating being a quarter of a century old and its the first that I haven't been able to make him a cake etc.  He preferred to fix his girlfriends car instead.

Oh well, I suppose I didn't have all the washing up to do either (lol).
