Boer War death
« on: Monday 15 January 07 16:49 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help with this little tidbit?

I'm told that one of my mother's uncles died at the end of the Boer War, when his troopship sunk on the way to Australia where he was to start a new life.

The only other thing I have to go on is that his name is would be something Clarke, possibly Henry or Albert.  I was told it was during the sinking of a ship when "Women and children" was first used, but research shows that to be HMS Birkenhead in 1862, not 1902.

Any suggestions?  There doesn't seem to be a lot on the Boer War and / or ships sinking.

Thx   Jules
