1891 census London
« on: Thursday 26 February 04 17:21 GMT (UK) »
Hi Chris

Wondered if you would check someone out for me please on the 1891 London census.  The address is 2 Park Place, Hague Street, Bethnal Green.  The person I'm looking for is a George Henry Ward, cabinet maker, who married Caroline Frances Palmer in 1883.  Their address was listed as above.

I'm hoping my g2 grandfather, John will be listed as a child, and also  his siblings.  Thankyou very much.
Best regards
Sue Saunders

Hi there Sue

"Wondered if you would check someone out for me please on the 1891 London census.  The address is 2 Park Place, Hague Street, Bethnal Green.  The person I'm looking for is a George Henry Ward, cabinet maker, who married Caroline Frances Palmer in 1883.  Their address was listed as above."

Have just spent about 20 mins on the 1891 census on line with the following result

Believe it or not, but there are 2390 people with the name George Ward, but only 305 Caroline Wards - so looked at Caroline first.

Only 1 of those Caroline Wards lived in Bethnal Green in 1891, but she is married to an Alfred Ward, and they have 7 children.

There are 8 George Wards in Bethnal Green, but only two are head of households, but not married to a Caroline and anyway, none of them are referred to as George Henry.

Of the other 6 only 3 are old enough to be a father; but having looked at each and every one, none are married.

There were 2 George Wards actually born in Bethnal Green, but one is married to Hannah with a daughter Hannah aged 4 and the other now lives in Fulham, but is married to an Ella with NO children.

So where do I go from here - any other clues to narrow those 2390 down a bit.

Ouch!

Thanks for trying Chris. As I haven't got too far with the Ward's yet I can't really supply any more info and yes, having logged into Genes Reconnected and realised just how many Wards there are I reckon its not going to be too easy - nearly a Smith it seems!

I have just ordered John Ward, his son's, marriage certificate to Alice Tarling my great grandmother.  That will give me some idea of his age so I'll have to do some backtracking and try to establish where and when John was born.  Its bound not to have been too far after his father George's marriage in 1883.  They obviously moved, possibly to St Pancras where John married and my grandmother was  born.

May I come back to you on this one?  Thanks very much again.

Best wishes
Sue
