Hello again Di

"could someone kindly do me a look up for JAMES EDWIN DAVERIDGE born 1869 Milverton and FLORA ANN HEAVEN born 1873 Gloucester.  Thanks to the work done by the people on free BMD I have just discovered my great gran's maiden name...........HEAVEN, I love it!!!!"

Spent about 10 mins on the 1891 census on line with the following results:

I put in James Daveridge and it came back with 3, aged 28, 55 and 60.
 - the 28 year old lives in Bedminster married to Eliza.

The only James Daveridge in Milverton was the 60 year old, born in Milverton and his wife Jane born Hillfarrance with their daughter Mary H aged 27 born Milverton and son Francis, 17, born Milverton – they were all living in Milverton (RG12/ 1870/ Folio 78/ Page 15)

Put in Flora Heaven, it came back with just 2 – both aged 18 years. But in going into the returns, they are both the same person, she has been indexed twice.

RG12/ 2003/ Folio 53 / Page 14 - Sheephouse Farm, Dursley, Gloucester
Flora Heaven, Servant, Unm, 18, Domestic Servant, born Elmore, Gloucestershire – living in Dursley, Gloucestershire.
Servant to George Paradise, 57, Farmer. – only 1 other person in the Household (another servant)

As a matter of interest, there are 10 people called Heaven in Elmore (birthplace of Flora)
There are no people called Heaven in Dursley
There are 250 people called Heaven living in Gloucestershire

This is the one and only Flora Heaven.

Well, are you in Heaven now

Thanks a million Chris, once again the speed of your reply amazes me!!!  I am just tickled pink that a Miss HEAVEN, just happened to be working for a Mr PARADISE, you couldn't make it up could you? ;D

The James and Jane Daveridge that you found are the parents of my James Edwin (wonder where he was at census time??)  The reason that Mary H was still living at home at the grand old age of 27, could be that the poor girl was given the handicap of 'idiot' on the 1881 census!!!!  very politically incorrect these days.........did you notice if the same handicap was listed for 1891??

Once again Chris, many thanks

Hello Di

To tell you the truth, I had not noticed the Heaven - Paradise connection, but yes, it would be hard to invent something like that.

I have attached the census entry to this message, so that you can see quite clearly there is 'NO' indication to a dissabilty in 1891.

Column 16, Deaf & Dumb, Blind, Lunatic Imbecile or Idiot has been left blank.
