Dennis Mannion of Kilcummin
« on: Tuesday 16 January 07 13:06 GMT (UK) »
Dennis Mannion of the Parish of Kilcummin married Carolina Fairley of County Down on the 11th. October 1833 in Saint Andrews Cathedral, Glasgow. 3 years later she remarried a Henry Twig from Kilrea in County Londonderry. Would appreciate any information on the 'demise' of Dennis Mannion.

Hello,
there are a few questions here.
So you know that Dennis was from Kilcummin Mayo? It's just that I am interested in that parish and have not come across it there.
However, Griffiths valuation does show quite a few Mannions in Kilcummin parish Galway- not Dennis though.
Secondly, might he have died in Glasgow or even Londonderry if Carolina was living in either place at the time of his death.
I suppose if you knew where he died, you would have to do parish records research to get any details but these would be sparse perhaps.
best wishes

Thanks for the reply. When they married, the Catholic priests in Glasgow made everyone being married give their parish of birth in Ireland and this was all hand written(Not many catholics in Scotland at the time).Carolina did not give her Parish on either occasion , only stating County Down, and when I asked the curator why this should be she said it probably meant that Carolina was a non catholic. Both weddings were in Glasgow and I have a line from the second marriage to my wife.

Hello again,
just to say that I meant to write 'Do you know... re parish' and not 'So you know' which sounds a bit critical- didn't mean that!

That said, as Lep and I both said, there are the parishes in both Galway and Mayo- I think in other counties too- Kerry perhaps. I did notice that there were Mannions in the Galway one.

If Dennis died in Glasgow, there may be a death record in the parish records for the Cathedral where he and Carolina married.
best wishes
