1861 Hastings John CLARK

Just registered here everyone on recommendation from another researcher.Hope this is the right way to post a message?!
Seeking please place of birth for John Clark, (mariner  on 1851 Hastings aged 40).The 1851 says 'at sea' but
would be good to see the 1861 entry? Many thanks    :)

I assume you mean the John Clarke of Gibbons Square in Hastings?

All fishermen in Hastings did their best to make sure they were at sea on the night of the census, therby not being recorded; it was their little thing to avoid the enumerator.

The 1841 census shows John as not being born in Sussex, but no place being given - if he is the John married to Martha with children named Martha and Rachael living in Bourne Street, Hastings
