Lost Relative Roberts Family in Ton Pentre
« on: Thursday 18 January 07 19:31 GMT (UK) »
This is a bit of a long shot but here goes.  I am helping a cousin of mine to trace a lost relative.

Constance Roberts Madley was born in 1913 in Gelly, Rhondda. She was adopted soon after her birth by a Roberts family, the head of which was a church or chapel minister.  They lived in Wyndham Street,Ton Pentre.  She married someone from the Royal Canadian Airforce and emmigrated to Canada.

Any leads greatly appreciated.

Hi, do you have her birth cert?  may give some clues with the middle name being Roberts that she was adopted by family.

Births Mar 1911 MADLEY  Constance R    Pontypridd  11a 752

There is a Madley family in Gelly Rd on the 1901 that is most probably part of her birth family.  The cert may give you that info.

The only other thing I can suggest, is you contact Treorchy library and ask for an electrol look up around Wyndam Street for Roberts families etc, but they only have registers  from 1918.  They may also have information on chapel ministers?

Another possible clue is by trawling the index to try find her marriage, but can be time consuming if you have no idea of date, or if she was Roberts / Madely

Hope this helps

Cas, Thanks for your reply. Yes I have her birth certificate and know her family history prior to her birth.  Her mother died shortly after she was born and her father couldn't cope so she was given up for adoption (this is stated on her birth certificate).  She was adopted by the Roberts family.  There are too many Constance Roberts in the BMD indexes to find a marriage but your electrol roll idea is a good one which I will look into.

Thanks,
Gerald

Treorchy Library were extremely helpful. Not only did they find the family I was looking for, they emailed me copies of internment notices at Treorchy Cemetery and newpaper cuttings of obituaries.  What a great service they provide for people researching their family histories.

Glad you have had a good result.  I have also found Treorchy library, very helpful and useful in this area, cannot recommend enough.

Best wishes

Hi Gerald,

I'm afraid there's not much we can do on the Canadian end due to our BMD privacy restrictions and not knowing her married name.  Perhaps if you find a few more clues someone at these sites might be able to help:
