Wilson Family returned from Colombo, Sri Lanka (Ceylon)
« on: Friday 19 January 07 23:11 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

I'm looking for the Wilson family returning from Colombo at the end of June 1909.
I found several possible ships (all arriving in London) online at the National Archives. But ofcourse don't know on which ship they arrived. Since I live in the Netherlands I can't visit the NA.
Can anyone help me finding out on which ship they arrived?
The family consisted of the following people:
Father: Albert Thomas Wilson (worked for the railways in england and Sri Lanka)
Mother: Frances Winifred wilson (nee Ambrose)
1 Son: Albert Dennis (or just Dennis)
3 Daughters: Frances Ethel (Fuchsia), Phyllis Doreen and Doris Blanche.
I have the names of 7 ships, but only 2 arrived in the second half of June:
SS City of Sparta (Ellerman Line) June 15 1909 (BT 26/390/44) and
SS City of Calcutta (City Line) June 28 1909 (BT 26/391/2).
I think the family arrived in Shorne Kent on the 29th, so the City of Calcutta is hopefully the one I'm looking for.
That is, if they could get from London to Shorne in a day in 1909. No idea if that was possible in those days.

Any help grately appreciated.
