Looking for family of Duncan James Lamond, born about 1843 at Oban. He joined the 72nd Highland Regt and went to India where he remained after retirement.

Hi renoqueen6

The closest I can see is a Duncan b. 1841:

DUNCAN LAMONT     Birth: 02 SEP 1841  Kilmore And Kilbride, Argyll, Scotland
Parents: Father: DUNCAN LAMONT  Mother: MARGARET MCCULLOCH

Father Duncan looks to have been a farmer (from the 1851 census: Farmer Of 60ac Employing 2 Labourers farming at Upper Lerags/ Lerages). In 1861 this Duncan, age 19, is lodging and is showing as an apprentice saddler.

This is the only Duncan I can see in 1851/61 censuses with a birth circa the one you are looking at and also with a birth place in the right county.

Do you have any other info on him (eg. names of children) that may help.

Regards.

Monica

I'm having a really hard time finding anything concrete on this guys family. The only record I have for him is his military record.

His wife's name was Harriet. He met and married her in India after he retired from the army. Can't find his death or marriage certificate.
