Wincote Victoria Park Rusholme
« on: Saturday 20 January 07 16:09 GMT (UK) »
My grandmother died Jan. 14, 1922 at a place on her death certificate called Wincote. My search so far has not revealed if this was a nursing home, hospital, clinic, or anything.
The doctor who pronounced her was Dr. J. Cryer.
This also could have been a private home where she worked as a servant.
Any thoughts.
Thank you.

Try posting this query on the Lancashire board - and anywhere else that you might find local knowledge.

Ask the local record office, local studies library, local history society etc. etc

Try street and trade directories - Doctor J Cryer is easy to find (whether its the right Dr J Cryer is another matter .......) this one is in High St Chorlton-on-Medlock

www.historicaldirectories.org is a good place to start but there are plenty they don't have.

Hi nana1944

If newburychap is right and this is the Dr J Cryer on the death cert. My thinking would be Wincote has something to do with one of the two hospitals located at :-

St Mary's - High Street (now Hathersage Road)
Manchester Royal Infirmary (Upper Brook Street)

St Mary's is a women & childrens hospital now, dont know if that was the case in 1922.

This site is now that large it looks like one complex, maybe try to contact someone there and see if Wincote was a ward or a building.

Regards
